At Mamalode this week, I found angels hidden in the details when making my bed sent ripples through our whole year.
My resolutions for 2012 were to make my bed and to do my hair – no bun.
I know. It’s hard to get your mind around that kind of ambition, isn’t it? But in my seventh year of mothering, with four kids only just reaching the age of occasional reason – along with the age of occasionally donning their own clothes and wiping their own … faces … these small goals seemed important. Like I was acknowledging my emergence, victorious, from the baby years and taking back some lost pieces of myself. … The Devil’s Details at Mamalode.
Angels for the week: A movie with Garrett and Nate in our big bed while Saige and Quinn are at the hockey game with Daddy; ash cakes over a campfire in the snow; finished The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin; the fact that her name is Ursula Le Guin; following moose prints; NOT finding the moose; Quinn starting to read; a LTYM sponsor; Saige’s sweetness toward Nate; Garrett reads five books in one day; Nate’s three.
Demons: Downton Abbey. Are you kidding DA? That sweet girl? She gets a bad haircut and goes Catholic and you viciously strike her down? Boo; reading with Quinn (ohmysweetgod, early readers are SO slooooowwwwww.); pitching LTYM sponsors; registration decisions; Saige’s fits; bath night, it comes every week; Garrett reads FIVE books in one day, mostly so that he can beg for more time on his video game thing; Nate’s getting closer to four.
